What if someone sent you PayPal money to the wrong e-mail address?

What if someone sent you PayPal money to the wrong e-mail address?

It can happen! Sometimes my clients send me PayPal money to the email address I’m communicating with, instead of the correct PayPal email address.

If that’s also your case, don’t tell them to cancel the payment just yet.

If you own the “wrong” email address

If you are the owner of the email address where the money has been wrongly sent, you can just add that email address to your PayPal account.

Yes, your PayPal account can be assigned more than one e-mail address, along with your main one.

  • If you are using the PayPal app, you can do that from your PayPal account -> Personal Info -> Emails -> Add new emails.

  • If you are using the desktop, click on your account’s top right area avatar-> Profile Settings -> Email -> Click Update, then click the “+” sign.

Add this e-mail address, receive the confirmation text and within a couple of minutes refresh your PayPal dashboard.

Your balance should now include the new payment.

If you don’t own the “wrong” email address

Unfortunately, your sender will have to cancel the payment. If that email address belongs to a PayPal account, the sender will have to request a refund.
